One of the most common misunderstandings about PRP therapy is that it is a single procedure. It rarely is. Because PRP works by nudging your own tissue to repair itself gradually, the result is built over a course of sessions and then held with maintenance, and knowing that up front prevents both disappointment and a half-finished treatment plan.

For hair loss, the typical starting course is three to four monthly sessions, because the follicle needs repeated growth-factor signals to shift out of its miniaturizing pattern. After that initial run, most people return for maintenance every three to six months, since the effect fades without upkeep. Skipping the maintenance is the usual reason a promising early result quietly slips away.

For cosmetic skin work such as PRP microneedling, a similar pattern holds: an initial series of roughly three sessions spaced a few weeks apart, then occasional touch-ups once or twice a year to keep the collagen response going. For orthopedic joint and tendon injections, the arithmetic is different, often one to three sessions depending on the joint and the severity, with less emphasis on ongoing maintenance and more on whether the first course delivered meaningful relief.

A provider who quotes you a one-and-done fix for hair or skin is not describing how PRP actually works.
